Mayor Dr.-Ing. Alexander Badrow

Dr. Alexander Badrow (CDU) was elected mayor of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund on 13 October 2008. In the run-off election on 1 June 2008, he secured 58.3 per cent of the vote whereas to his rival, Karsten Neumann (DIE LINKE), attained only 41.7 percent.

On April 26th 2015, he was elected a second time. He secured 65.1 percent of the votes.

The term of office is 7 years.

Duties

The Mayor

  • is the legal representative of the municipality.
  • heads the administration.
  • is responsible for the due execution of all duties and for ensuring the proper administration of the city.
  • prepares and enacts the decisions of the city council.
  • is in charge of the day-to-day administration of city affairs.
  • manages and coordinates the internal organisation of the administration and the allocation of duties.
  • is the supervisor of all employees of the administration.
  • makes personnel decisions in the context of the employment plan approved by the city council.

Biography of Dr. Alexander Badrow

  • born on 25 October 1973 in Stollberg, Protestant, married, three children
  • from 1992 to 1997 civil engineering student at the TU Dresden
  • from 1997 to 2003 research assistant at the TU Dresden
  • from 2003 to 2005 officer responsible for public transport and stationary vehicles in Frankfurt am Main
  • from 2005 to 2008 head of the Road, Park and Green Space Unit of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund, areas of responsibility include underground, waterway, and bridge construction, as well as road and park maintenance and traffic planning
  • since 13 October 2008 Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund
  • elected a second time on April 26th, 2015, by securing 65.1 percent of the votes
  • since 2007 member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU)
