Culture and Education

Stralsund’s cultural landscape is characterised by a diverse array of museums, theatrical productions, exhibits, cinema, cabarets, open-air concerts and other exciting locations and events.

Stralsund is also known for its excellent educational institutions and manifold programmes offering ideal opportunities and optimal support. The Stralsund University of Applied Sciences has a particularly strong international outlook, and the Naval Engineering School (Marinetechnikschule) in Parow is the most modern school of the German Navy.

STRALSUND MUSEUM

STRALSUND MUSEUM

World Heritage Exhibition

Since 2002, the "Historic Centres of Stralsund and Wismar" have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Visitors can learn all about Stralsund’s world heritage by visiting the World Heritage Exhibition daily from 10am to 5pm at Ossenreyerstraße 1. Website Historic Centres of Stralsund and Wismar

Theatre Landscape

Enchanting performances can be seen on both large and small stages in Stralsund. Not only do the professionals of the Theater Vorpommern bedazzle their guests, the young actors of the StiC-er Theater also demonstrate their talents on stage. The St James “culture church” is a unique venue for concerts, theatre performances, rehearsals, exhibitions, markets and fairs.

Music School

The Stralsund Music School is run by the municipality and is an active part of the city’s educational and cultural landscape. The education provided by the school draws upon both tradition and innovation. The music schools of Stralsund and Stargard Szczeciński have been cooperating closely for many years. This cooperation has resulted in long-term projects, such the German-Polish Music School Centre and the German-Polish Music School Orchestra. Website Music School Stralsund

Municipal Archive

With an inventory of over 9,000 documents, municipal records dating back to 1270, civil records from as early as 1319, approx. 3,000 linear metres of documentary material and some 3,000 manuscripts, the Municipal Archive records the eventful history of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund.

Naval Engineering School (Marinetechnikschule) Parow

Naval Engineering School Parow

The Naval Engineering School (Marinetechnikschule) in Parow is the most modern school of the German Navy with the mandate to educate marine engineers from non-commissioned ranks to officers. The goal of the training is to develop technical expertise and practical skills. The school offers professional training programmes to the level of journeyman or master craftsman.
